About the ARTIST
A passion for the vertical, shapes Basha Ruth Nelson's primary
artistic direction. The roots of this commitment lie deep since
much of her education and experience has the background of New York's
skyscrapers. Now Nelson explores this premise at an even more profound
level. For her, the vertical is at once both spiritual and elegant
and one of the simplest and strongest forms in nature.
Her work is highly intuitive. Whether sculpture, construction
or installation, her hallmark is the creation of unity between form
and the volume in which her pieces live. Her most recent constructions
in aluminium flow with grace, dignity and strength, engaging the
viewer through surface and scale.
Nelson holds awards for her work, most recently a Lorenzo
De Medici award in sculpture from the Biennale in Florence, Italy.
She has works in public and private collections in the United States
and the Bahamas including the United States Embassy, Nassau, Bahamas;
The Institute of the Arts, Nassau, Bahamas; The Woodstock Historical
Society, Woodstock, New York. Nelson has exhibited widely in the
United States and Europe and is included in many publications. Her
Masters Degree comes from New York University. |
